Intro CPD: boys and young men
Working Therapeutically with Boys and Young Men
Masculinity, Shame, Anger and Emotional Development
One hour · £50 individual fee · Booking opens soon
When anger, silence or withdrawal is what you see, what else might you need to understand? This one-hour introduction offers a starting point for looking beyond behaviour and reflecting on your own responses.
A useful pause in your practice
Explore how shame, belonging and expectations of masculinity may shape what boys and young men show us. Strength, care and responsibility are part of the picture too. Understanding what lies beneath behaviour does not mean overlooking its impact.
The aim is to leave with a clearer perspective, one possible shift in your practice and a question worth continuing to explore.
What you will explore
• How family, culture and belonging shape different experiences of masculinity.
• What anger, silence, humour or withdrawal might communicate or protect.
• How your own assumptions and reactions influence what you notice.
• Keeping curiosity alongside boundaries, safety and responsibility.
Who it is for
Therapists, counsellors and practitioners in youth, pastoral and wellbeing roles who support boys and young men. Intro offers a focused introduction; Core and Full-Day give more room for application and complexity. You can choose any level without attending the others first.
Fee and progression credit
Receive a £20 progression credit after Taster, bringing the £50 Intro fee to £30. If you continue to Core, receive a £50 credit towards its £195 fee, bringing the amount payable to £145. You can also join Intro directly for £50.

Delivery and availability
Live online and in-person delivery are planned, with a recorded Intro also intended. Live sessions include reflection and optional discussion; a recording would allow independent reflection. Dates, presenter and available formats will be confirmed before booking.
Developed by Dave Flint. We are working towards CPCAB endorsement before opening bookings; approval has not yet been granted. This is professional CPD, rather than therapy, case supervision or a professional qualification.
